From the moment I saw the sign that said "Belize Welcomes you" , I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience. I got a taxi to take me to the ferry terminal. Belize City wasn't my final stop, it was Caye Caulker so unfortunately, I wasn't done traveling.
The journey took roughly 20 minutes. I joined the line to purchase tickets and waited for the boat. Quickly enough the sprinter boat was here to take me to Caye Caulker. The boat makes three stops, Caye Chapel, Caye Caulker and San Pedro. There is also an option to fly.
Once I got to Caye Caulker my hotel was a only a few feet from the ferry. It was more of a guest house than hotel but it had its own restaurant and that was good enough for me. A quick nap was in order to combat the sun and then I went out for an amazing dinner. Whenever you're in a Caribbean country, get the fish.
The next day I geared up for the main attaction. I walked across the beach to the meet-up point and joined a golf cart that took me to the local airport. Today a group of us would be chartering a flight to see the Blue Hole. The flight was about an hour and it was everything you could imagine and more. Being able to ride in the cockpit made it more special as an aviation enthusiast.
From there I walked to the Split to enjoy the beach and good weather. Caye Caulker is seperated between the north and south islands so the Split is the meeting point between the two where the action is. Swimming, diving boards, bars and jet ski's, they have it all.
There are also a few bars for beverages as well as street vendors selling everything from barbecue chicken to grilled lobster.
The entirety of the trip was based around the Blue Hole flight as it was a bucket list item but the vibe of the island is really nice. It's a calm space for those who want to relax and enjoy the sun. Take the ferry to San Pedro if you really want to party. I definitely would love to take another run at the Blue Hole but as a scuba diver next time.
