One of the things I wanted to do more of this year was visit African countries. Starting from west to east of course, Cape Verde looks like a great starting point. roughly 430 miles off the coast of Senegal, i got to Cape Verde with a layover in Senegal and a short flight on Groupé Air Senegal.

When I landed, I was notified I was suppose to be an Electronic Travel Authorization or Ease prior to entering the country and had to wait on line to secure one before being stamped into the country.

My driver picked me up and we headed to the Barcelo Hotel. Modern hotel with all the trappings and most rooms either have a see view or a view of the pool. Cachupa stew is on the menu for most places on island and its a great introduction to local food. I quickly changed into my swim drunks and went to the beach bar next to the hotel.

The next day I venture to Tarafal via a tour but not before stopping at Mama Louisa to try a few local dishes and coffee. The local cooking class was a great touch to the tour and a great way to start. We then went to the Asssomada Market to see how the locals live and shop.

Next was the Tarrafal Concentration Camp museum where polical prisoners were kept during times of war in the country. Finally was Tarrafal Beach where we had lunch and spent a few hours soaking up the sun. This was a good way to see Santiago island. Cape Verde itself is made up of 10 different islands, each offering something different for visitors.
