The island of Thira is one of the most popular of the Greek islands but most of us know it as its most common name “ Santorini”

Santorini is a great place to visit and should be on everyone's bucket list, especially couples. I got the opportunity to travel the island with my cell phone and my go pro(doesn’t get any better) I had an amazing time and can't wait to return in the summer to see it at its liveliest.

How to get there:

Olympic Airlines, Aegean Airlines, and Ryanair all operate daily flights from Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International airport. The journey is roughly 45 minutes. The other option is by ferry, Blue Star Ferry offers boat service from Athens to the main port of Piraeus which is roughly 8 hours.

How to get around once there

Once there, you have three options in getting around. There are rental car agencies such as Herts and others, right outside of the arrivals lounge in the airport. Option two is the bus to Fira, which is the main town, and the bus depot allows you to connect to other parts of Santorini. And last but not least, the good people at Yafy. I used Yafy because of the limited time in Santorini. They have service to Oia (€12) and to Fira (€10). Between Oia and Fira, and other parts of the country there are local buses.

Towns to visit in Santorini

Oia - the town is in the north of the island and is home to some of the most picturesque spots on the island. Home of the castle of Oia, sunset in the city is some of the best in the world. Infront of the castle has views of Thirasia. For those up for some exercise can take the steps down to Armeni bay.

Fira - The central town in Santorini with connections to the rest of the island. It has many museums and Cathedrals to look at. It is an architectural dream. There are many tour companies in the area where you can schedule wine tastings, trips to the Red beach and sea excursions.
